We are writing to ask for your help. You have always been there for us in the past and we need your support now. Like many not for profits, Nyack Center has experienced cuts in government grants in the last few years. These cuts come at a time when so many of the children and families we serve need Nyack Center’s Breakfast Club, After School Programs and our other programs more than ever.
We are asking donors like you to consider helping us close that gap so we can continue to serve children and families to our current capacity. Our Breakfast Club, which is free, and our After School Program, which is the lowest costing program in Rockland County, are full with waiting lists. Over 90% of the children in these programs are at or below the Federal Income Guidelines for Poverty. Most of the children we serve are from working poor families and live in substandard housing without proper kitchens or heat. With cuts, these children would not have an affordable, safe and supervised place before and after school.
When we truly see the children in our community who have less, we wonder can we ever do enough?
Your donations go to program costs:
a year of Backdoor for a teen costs $21
six weeks of Camp Nyack for a child costs $1,031
a year of Computer Time for a student costs $1,281
one year in Breakfast Club for a child costs $1,378
one year in After School Program for a child costs $1,627
one year in our Gang Prevention Program for a child costs $1,797
In tough times we look to each other for support. We see that generosity each day at Nyack Center in community members who create fundraisers for our programs, in the 13-year-old who volunteers to work with a struggling 7-year-old, in the gifts donated to children during the holiday season, in donations of services by local contractors, and in food drives.
How great it would be look at one another and say we have done our part for our community. We need to see each other and really see each child in poverty in Rockland, in Nyack in our own neighborhood.
When we do better for these children, we all benefit. As each child in poverty does better, all our children benefit. As all our children grow successfully, our entire community benefits.
Your generous support has always meant so much to us and allowed us to serve families in the most difficult of economic circumstances.
